He was born in Melbourne, Derbyshire 21st October 1898, the son of Leonard Tivey (1873-1911) and Elizabeth Marson (1876-1943)
Arthur married Helena Clarke 1920 in Melbourne and they had 3 daughters, Molly, Edna and Helena.
