This family photograph was taken in 1899 in Lower Beeding, Sussex.

The lady seated is Fanny Gates  - nee Tivey. Fanny was born in 1861 in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. Her parents were William Tivey and Mary Ashley.

Her husband is James Gates (1850-1929) and their son William James Gates is on her knee (born 1899)
