GEORGE TIVEY,   (GEORGE1) was born 11 May 1799 in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England12, and died 1884 in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England13.He was the son of George Tivey c1774-1821 and Sarah Oakley 1775-1841. George had quite a varied list of Occupations; in 1841 he was listed as a Silk Lace Maker; 1851 Frame Work Knitter; 1861 Master Frame Work Knitter; 1871 Bill Poster; 1881 Bill Poster & Town Crier.

 

He married CATHERINE NEWBURY14 28 Dec 1846 in Melbourne, Derbyshire15, daughter of JOHN NEWBURY and SARAH AULT. She was born 26 Mar 1821 in Ticknall, Derbyshire16, and died 1906 in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England.

Catherine already had a child out of wedlock ~ Henry Newbury born 1842 Ticknall. Henry married the daughter of Joseph Tivey of Group 10 ~ Sarah.

Sarah's Headstone can be seen at the churchyard to the rear of Melbourne General Baptist Church "In Memory of SARAH Wife of George Tivey who departed this life January 19th 1841 aged 64 years."  Burial: Bet. Jan - Feb 1841, Melbourne General Baptist Church, Melbourne, Derbyshire, England. Her parents were Thomas Oakley and Elizabeth  Holland she had the following known siblings - Rebecca baptised 17 Jun 1764; Hannah baptised 02 Mar 1766; Elizabeth baptised 20 Dec 1772.

2. ELIZABETH TIVEY, b. 29 Jun 1796, Melbourne, Derbyshire, England2; d. 1885, Melbourne, Derbyshire, England3. She was the eldest child (Known) of George Tivey 1773(c) and Sarah Oakley 1775(c).
