
Reginald was known as Rip or “Young Rip”, was the younger son of Samuel Tivey (1870-1947) of Melbourne, Derbyshire, and Elizabeth Smith (1866/7-1916), Samuel was an old-fashioned cobbler, or ‘master shoemaker’, who lived in a small house on the south-west side of the village of Melbourne.
Rip and the other boy featured in the picture, Bill Shaw, were brought up by the Singleton family, featured here ~ Scout Master and Youth Club leader and his wife who also had another son and a daughter Molly.
