Ronald served on several ships during the conflict including The Royal Arthur, Wildfire and Drake IV (Vansittart) - pictured below.
He returned from the war and worked in the coal mines of Lount and Whitwick in Leicestershire for the rest of his working life, progressed to Colliery deputy for 20 years or so. Like so many of his fellow miners, suffered in later life with Lung related health prblems caused by coal mining. |

Before he joined the Royal Navy in 1940 Ronald worked as a
labourer in his hometown of Breedon, Leicestershire. He married
Winifred Beryl Twells in 1942 and their son John Russell Tivey
completed their family in 1944. Many thanks to John for
