There is a marriage record in the district which includes Glossop for a Martha Ann Tivey and one for a Mary Ann Tivey in 1869 Chesterfield district; either of these could refer to the youngest child - there is no other record of a Martha Ann within the ditrict.

                Edwin served as a Captain in the Boer War, when he was awarded the DSO in 1901. In World War I as a BrigadieGeneral he commanded an Australian brigade on the Western Front.  He was awarded the CB in 1917 and the CMG in 1919. He retired with the rank of Major-General in 1928. Tivey Parade and Tivey Street in Melbourne suburbs are named after him.

Sir John Tivey received his knighthood in 1955 for services to engineering and industry in Australia. He was at various times President of Associated Chambers of Manufacturers of Australia, President Institution of Engineers, Australia and member of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
