TIVEYS IN THE PARISH OF BREEDON ON THE HILL

Breedon on the Hill is a large parish comprising several villages other than Breedon itself, such as Griffydam, Lount, Newbold and Wilson; at one time it also included the now separate parish of Worthington, where baptisms were undertaken from 1683 and marriages from the late 18th century, but there were no burials at Worthington until at least after 1837. In some cases it is not possible to identify the village where events concerning the Tiveys took place; in these cases the event is shown as happening in Breedon, but for births and deaths, this means anywhere in the parish (including Worthington) and not the village of Breedon itself.

                                                (and perhaps a 2nd marriage in 1706)

2.  Edward Tivey          b.  n.k.                         d.  n.k.

     Mary Gill                 b.  n.k.                         d.  n.k.

Mary                1688    Worthington                                         ?                                              n.k.

Edward            1691    Worthington                                         ?                                              n.k.

Hannah*           1707    Newbold                                              ?                                             n.k.

Sara*               1714    Newbold                                              ?                                             n.k.

*It is not certain that Hannah and Sara were daughters of the same Edward as was the father of the other four children or even that they were children of the same marriage. There was an Edward Tivey who married Elizabeth Jaques in Breedon on 26th November 1706; this might have been a second marriage of the Edward originally married in 1687 or could have related to another Edward. It seems unlikely that it could relate to the one born in 1691, who would have been only 15 years old at the time.

Children, if any, not identified

It is not certain that the Edward Tivey of Worthington who married Elizabeth Smith of Packington was the son of George born in 1728; it may have been another Edward.

The following other records appear at Breedon on the Hill

16th August 1726          William Tivey    buried

23rd August  1726         William Tivey, son of Mary, Baptised

29th July       1747         William Tivey buried

8th January   1774         Mrs. Tivey (widow) buried

Thomas Tivey (see Group E) was married in Breedon in 1732 and there may well be some connection between him and the Tiveys mentioned above, though the precise connection cannot be established. There were gaps in the parish registers in the early 18th century.
